PROJECT NUMBER: J651
Project 1
Just 32 children from the Kathputli Slum (of 13,000 people) joyfully entered the bus for their first ever day of school back in August 2005. Eight years later in 2013 seven buses transport in excess of 400 children to the Helping Hands School which today is providing an above Govt standard curriculum to students of pre-school through to 10th class. Subjects being taught include Maths, Science, Social Science, Art, Computers and Languages (English, Hindi and Sanskrit). The school principal says … “Now our goal is to increase to 12th standard our free education for the poor, and we envisage having 750 children enrolled for the school year of 2015. Education and our planned vocational training programs will certainly open (previously closed) windows of opportunity for our children and we will see a vastly transformed Kathputli Slum Community in the coming years.”
Having been in rented premises since the school’s inception in 2005 Helping Hands management now has plans in 2014 to purchase land and commence the building of our school and vocational training facilities.
To facilitate this building project we need to raise the budget of $750,000
Project 2
In August 2004 Helping Hands Jaipur Society, set up by Bob and Janine Mann of Moranbah Queensland, commenced a sewing training program in Jaipur India with the goal of seeing families escape their lives of poverty. As many young slum women and men have become skilled in the tailoring trade Helping Hands Society management has been assisting these people in securing long-term employment. In 2009 the opportunity arose to begin manufacturing uniforms for schools in Australia. The success of these Aussie school uniforms, along with stitching all our own Helping Hands School uniforms, has necessitated expansion and has prompted Bob and Janine to begin raising funds for the building of Helping Hands own Sewing Factory. Bob says “we envisage in the coming years training and employing hundreds of poor women and men, paying them good wages, and seeing the lifestyles of many families of the slum communities of Jaipur India transformed.”
In addition to the Sewing Factory several other small businesses have commenced. These include that of Panchmukt’s designer handbags, which he himself designs and sells locally and abroad (see Panchmukt above).
To commence the building of our Sewing and Small Business factory, and to fit out with sewing machines etc we need to raise $90,000.
Please consider partnering with us in the above-mentioned projects. On receiving your donation a fully tax-deductible receipt will be forwarded to you.
